An article by Swaminathan Iyer in today'...
This is an amazing article. At the cost of sounding ‘anti-national’, I want to say I have been harbouring similar ideas about final resolution of the vexing Kashmir problem. I also produce the entire article here.RegardsBC.Independence day for KashmirBy Swaminathan A aiyar On August 15, India celebrated independence from the British Raj. But Kashmi... more...

Olympics Ahoy!!
There is a valid theory that the state of the nation depends on the state of its sports. The argument being sportspeople are healthier, the nation that does better at sports has more people who have better healthcare facilities, educational facilities and nutritional levels . If that is the case, we have a lot to worry about. As a sport we know one... more...

Rains and other ramblers...
It’s raining again. As I write this, it is now only a drizzle. But it’s very dark outside, signs are ominous. It’s going to rain again heavily after a brief respite – much like what the stock market analysts say – the markets will bounce back after creating new lows. This spell was not unexpected. Over the past few days, rains have been very heavy ... more...

Silly Rhymes...
Here’s me trying to get into some sort of blogform. I am trying to see if what is true for out of form batsmen is true for me as well. Spend some time on the pitch and the feet will start moving. Lets see if my fingers start moving as well. Had quite heavy rains in Mumbai today. Kindof inspired this silly rhyme. No reflection on the quality of poem... more...

For no rhyme or reason
Hi Friends,Have been out of action lately. Actually what transpired was first my laptop crashed. Then when it was repaired, the internet connection malfunctioned. The broadband provider said it was my lan card problem. I had it checked, the person said the lan card worked fine. I scratched my head and got the laptop home. Had almost decided to buy ... more...

Sanctity of the Dead.
Being denied the right to live is pitiable enough. However, what makes me churn inside is the way in which the dead, or rather the killed, are being slandered. I wish, at least in these cases,  there was more sanctity to their death. My point of reference is the ‘sensational’ Arushi killing. Being killed by her own father is bad; that she had not b... more...

Hi..
Holla!! People write to celebrate anniversaries of blogging. I contemplated, the least I could do is write to celebrate one year of absence! Hehe. Thanks to all for your concern but being the arrogant fool that I am, I did not respond to anybody’s GB entries.  That I was physically indisposed was another matter and of course an excuse.Ok, here is th... more...

Super Prez!!
There was a time when boxing federations were many, for eg., WBC, EBC, etc, etc, each having its own championship. (I have stoppd following them now, so I wouldn't know the current status.) Some great boxer would come along and win all these titles merging the championship in one person. The same thing seems to be happening in Indian polity now. Ju... more...

The smell
What is that smell in the air?Is that the smell of the malt from my favourite whisky? Or the smell of the burning tobacco of my cigarette? No it's stronger, older, older than me, older than our race.Is it the smell of a freshly killed carcass? No, now I know, its the smell of the prey that is running away.Yeah, its the smell of the age-old gameBetw... more...

Leave me alone
Leave me alone here,Where the shadows of the sun tickle my feet,Where sequestered moons of my twenty years, They rub their silver scales against lonely wounds. Happiness is a choice
Are we all messed up inside? The older I get the more convinced I am that there is nothing termed as a "normal" person. "Normal" should be deleted from all languages. Normal is such a vague term, I grew up thinking that the journey of life would be just so, but I found out that the road was so convoluted and there were so many exits, so many crazy ...  more...

Then and now
It was my birthday on the 31st of May. A lot on candles on a birthday cake that never was. This is the second birthday in a row, where I did not have the usual cake and candles deal. Maybe I have got too old for that kind of thing. This year, my birthday celebration was pretty laidback. Just a quiet dinner with family. A few friends called in to wi...  more...

A blues poem/song
Well, listening so much to Billie Holiday all this weekend. I kinda wrote down this song, which at two places refers to two of her different songs. I have tried to write down the kind of song/poem she used to sing in her satin voice. I have titled it:When you come to my memory When you come to my memoryI conjure up a storyA delightful storyOf a sum...  more...

Mazala Salza - Introducing Anil Thekepar...
ANIL THEKEPARAMBIL, 39Anil Thekeparambil woke up with a start. He could not remember the name of the woman whom he had brought home last night. The woman had left early and that brought over him a sense of relief. He didn’t have to put up an act of “how great last night was or that they should get back real soon.” She was a lousy fuck anyway. Mich...  more...

The Landlady: Concluding Episode
For Fountainahas the night before Good Friday was a watershed in its rather uneventful history; many years after that fateful night, women in the neighborhood would habitually use it as a point of reference to establish facts: so-and-so’s age for example. ‘Oh! Don’t you remember? She was almost knee high that Good Friday!’ That night as Maggie lay ...  more...
