actually the politicians are trying to wrest control of cantonment land all over the country- these are open areas, at time very posh and healthiest in each city, have good civic assets, and quite rich as far as government money is concerned. the problem therefore is that they would like to grab everything in the cantonment, make money by throwing the land open to builders, and thus create problems of the city again, all the time sitting on the Army's chest and pulling out the Army's beard, strand by strand, for there is hardly any urbanised, developed land left else-where in India! With that would come a rowdy crowd of hi polloi, the noveau rich, like the Vikas Yadavs, the Chara Chors like Lalu, The BMWs of the Nanda's and then, inch by inch, encroachment would progress into the military land too- beginning with new MAZARs, temples, broken fences... can you see why a candidate from the Cantonment of Jabalpur- a coarse ill mannered ex-clothmerchant wants to retain his seat? |
